Court’s decisions
On November 11, the Russian Supreme Court on Military Affairs dismissed a complaint filed in a case of Islam Tukhuzhev, a 34-year-old native of Kabardino-Balkaria, who was convicted in 2019 for publicly justifying terrorism.
According to the investigators’ version, in February 2017, while being in a punishment cell of the penal colony, in the presence of at least three other prisoners, Islam Tukhuzhev publicly justified the terrorist activities of the terrorist organization “Djebkhat al-Nusra” banned in Russia. Islam Tukhuzhev was serving in the penal colony his sentence in the case on the attack on Nalchik (he was supposed to be released in March 2020).
Islam Tukhuzhev pleads not guilty. Advocate Ilya Novikov requested the court to cancel the sentence, as he considered it unlawful. According to the advocate, the Islam Tukhuzhev’s right to defence “was disrupted.”
Every month, quarter, and every year, the “Caucasian Knot” posts statistics with regard to victims of the armed conflict in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in Section “Northern Caucasus: Statistics of Victims”.
