Political analysts exclude Turkey's participation in hostilities in Ukraine

Turkey has no legal grounds to take part in the military conflict in Ukraine by supporting one of the parties, political analysts have noted. Besides, Turkish authorities prioritize the development of economy, not geopolitics.

Turkey will not side Ukraine as a party in its conflict with Russia, despite the protection of the country's sovereignty, said Professor Togrul Ismail from the Turkish University of Political Sciences and International Relations.

Mr Ismail has added that Turkey has no military support agreements with Russia and Ukraine, but it has such an agreement with the NATO, which imposes obligations on its members.

"Turkey believes that it has important relations with Russia that cannot be destroyed. On the other hand, Turkey has declared its neutrality," said Sabir Askaroglu, an expert on international relations at the ANKASAM Ankara Crisis and Policy Research Centre.

He has noted that Turkey has no military alliance with Ukraine; and all its actions are limited to its membership in the NATO.

Diplomatic support can be seen as military one, since it has a broad meaning, Ali Asker, an expert in foreign relations, believes. He also ruled out "the option of Turkey's military intervention."

Turkey is in a difficult situation; and from the position of President Erdogan it is clear that the Turkey's position is tougher than that of most other NATO members, Rinat Mukhametov, a political analyst, has noted.
