Dagestani authorities' report on price stabilization sparks criticism on Internet

Authorities have managed to stabilize foodstuff and medicine prices, Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, the head of the Dagestani government, has announced. In their turn, Telegram users have treated this statement as untrue and stated that prices continue rising.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the anti-Russia sanctions introduced after the start of the special operation in Ukraine had provoked the rouble depreciation. On March 4, residents of Makhachkala reported that grocery prices had risen in stores. The republic's authorities explained the rise in prices by sanctions, a rush demand for foodstuffs and a delay in Russian cargos that are transported by sea.

Commentators in the My Dagestan Telegram channel have criticized officials for their report on price stabilization.

"Where have they stabilized? Prices are as they are, why are you deceiving people?" the user Patimat has asked.

"Come to Derbent and tour the stores. Elementary, they raised prices for bread, sugar and butter. But aren't these essential products?" the user with the nickname Ya has asked.

On March 20, pharmacists in Makhachkala said that some drugs had risen in price in the city amid increased demand, but prices for vital drugs, they said, did not exceed the allowed threshold.
