"Memorial" Society tells on terror and distortions of Putin's policies

The Corriere della Sera newspaper has retold the manifesto of the Moscow Human Rights Society "Memorial," with which the Society presents itself to the Oslo Jury - the "Memorial" has been nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

"Now, 70 years after Stalin's trials and deportations, the General Soviet Terror is not over. In terrible 1937, when two million persons were arrested for no obvious motive under command of the dictator - and 0.7 million of them were executed - poisoned seeds were planted of the current mass corruption, authoritarian rule and Russian conformism. In those days, on the basis of widespread practice of treachery and denunciations, neglect of independent court, emasculation of democratic institutes and prosecution of other-minded people, the illnesses of modern Russia were cultivated. Moreover, the future is now in obscurity: the General Terror can leave a legacy of the poisoned gift, wave of violence and tough Soviet-type nationalism, and repressions, the most violent forms inclusive, against any form of nonconformity," the newspaper quotes the main ideas of the "Memorial" manifesto, the full text of which is presented by the InoPressa.ru.
