Dagestani police report liberation of rehabilitation centre patients

Law enforcers have detained 14 people at the rehabilitation centre located in a Makhachkala suburb, where chains and handcuffs were used as methods of treating drug addiction and alcoholism; patients thereof said they were held there by force, the Dagestani police have reported.

Employees of the drug control department of the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have found the above rehabilitation centre, in which alcohol and drug addicts were illegally kept. According to the police, the centre's patients "were kept in improper conditions in violation of their rights and freedoms," the press service of the Dagestani MIA has informed.

Two patients said that they had been kept in the centre since February 1 against their will. Handcuffs and chains were found in the centre, which were supposedly used to restrict patients' freedom, says the message posted on the MIA's Telegram channel on April 15.
