Georgian President pardons eight convicts

On the occasion of the Easter, the Georgian President, Salome Zurabishvili, has signed a decree on pardoning eight convicts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ms Zurabishvili is regularly timing pardoning to memorable dates. Thus, on April 9, on the occasion of the anniversary of Georgia's independence, she pardoned 15 convicts.

Let us remind you from August 2019 to January 6, 2020, a moratorium on pardoning was in effect in Georgia. It was introduced after on August 28, 2019, Ramaz Devadze, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing a policeman, occurred among those pardoned. His pardoning was criticized not only by the opposition, but also by the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party.

On January 6, 2020, when the moratorium was lifted, President Zurabishvili pardoned five persons, which sparked human rights defenders' criticism, since hundreds of prisoners had been waiting for pardoning.
