Amid sanctions, Russian govt corrects NCFD development plans
With account of the anti-Russian sanctions, the North-Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) will mainly develop its agriculture, the transport infrastructure and tourism, including in Dagestan, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) and Chechnya, the Russian government has indicated in the development strategy for Northern Caucasus.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 15, 2021, the Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin, stated a failure of the development programme for Northern Caucasus.
The updated governmental document defines the Northern Caucasus' development until 2025, the website of the Russian govt reports. In the social sphere, the new strategy sets the construction of schools and kindergartens as the main goal, due to which the problem of the availability of preschool education in the North-Caucasian regions will be solved.
It is also planned to improve the transport infrastructure, including the construction of new routes and reconstruct the airports in Makhachkala, Nalchik, Beslan and Grozny.
It should be noted here that after many countries closed their borders due to the pandemic, Russian tourists began paying more attention to country's domestic resorts, including those located in Northern Caucasus. One of the most popular mountain ski resorts is the "Elbrus" resort in the KBR. However, vacationers there complain about the queues for lifts and traffic jams.
On May 4, tourists suggested improving the infrastructure of mountain routes in North Ossetia. According to their stories, the services are underdeveloped in the republic, and there are not enough public toilets.
