Oppositionists note weak reaction of Chechen authorities to beating former police boss
Chechen authorities have failed to focus on the beating up of the former head of the police division in Turkey; only Chengiz Akhmadov, the head of the "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) reacted to the video and stated that there had been "enmity" between the attackers and republic's authorities. Recently, the latter have diverted their attention from the persecution of opponents' relatives, focusing on the events in Ukraine, Ruslan Kutaev has noted.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 12, the "Security Turkey" Telegram channel, which was created to protect the security of the Chechen Diaspora in Turkey, disseminated a video showing the beating up in Turkey of Beslan Edilov, a former head of the police division in the Chechen village of Gikalo.
The beating up of Edilov went almost unnoticed by Chechen authorities, unlike earlier similar incidents. Only Chengiz Akhmadov, the head of the "Grozny" ChGTRK, reacted to the video. In two videos recorded and posted on his Telegram channel on May 12, he spoke rather harshly about the members of the Chechen Diaspora in Turkey, stating that there is "enmity" between them and Chechen authorities.
Now, the public opinion plays a big role in the republic; therefore, authorities are behaving softer, Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, has noted. "In Chechnya, the nuts are twisted up to the end. Further, they'll just break. They even make some indulgences; this is done consciously. Today the agenda of the Chechen Republic has changed dramatically. Whoever says what, the situation in Ukraine defines the future of Chechen authorities," Mr Kutaev believes.
Chengiz Akhmadov has recorded his clips with one aim – to please the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, Tumso Abdurakhmanov, a Chechen blogger, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. However, he doesn't treat the change in Akhmadov's rhetoric from declaring the blood feud to a reminder of some kind of enmity as a marker of some changed tonality under the pressure of Russia's internal political factors.
By his words about enmity, Chengiz Akhmadov wants to remind about the blood feud declared earlier, Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer, believes. "This is not a declaration, but a reminder about the blood feud, declared earlier; that the enmity is still actual," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
