Seven members of the "Sasna Tsrer" detachment detained in Armenia
Today, law enforcers have detained seven members of the "Sasna Tsrer" detachment, accused of capturing the building of the police regiment in July 2016, the National Democratic Pole (NDP) of Armenia has informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 24, 2021, a court in Yerevan announced its decision on the case of the capturing the above building back in July 2016, sentencing members of the "Sasna Tsrer" detachment to prison terms ranging from four to 25 years. The defendants refused to plead guilty and decided to appeal against the verdict at the Court of Appeal.
On July 17-31, 2016, the "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun) detachment, formed by supporters of the "Constituent Parliament" Movement, captured and held the building of the police patrol-and-post service in Yerevan.
Varuzhan Avetisyan, an NDP board member was detained this morning, the board has informed (the "Sasna Tsrer" is an NDP member, – note of the "Caucasian Knot").
Other "Sasna Tsrer" members were also detained together with Avetisyan, the NDP says in its statement sent today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The NDP believes that the detention on May 28, the Armenia's Republic Day, is not accidental. "This suggests that the liquidation of real national and sovereign forces has been also launched in Armenia," the NDP has stated.
