Video with a tourist in a swimsuit provokes disputes about dress code in Dagestan

The authorities of Dagestan should adopt a law on the dress code and rules of conduct for tourists, note some users of the “VKontakte” social media outlet who watched a video with a female tourist in a swimsuit near the Khuchninsky waterfall. Other users point out that local residents themselves do not comply with the requirements for tourists.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the issue of introducing a dress code for tourists, as well as disputes about the rules of behaviour for vacationers, has been repeatedly raised in Dagestan.

On the evening of June 9, a video was published on the “VKontakte” social media outlet in the “Golos Dagestana” (Voice of Dagestan) group, the footage of which showed a group of people. The sound of the waterfall can be heard in the background, and people are filmed at a distance. One of the men has no outerwear, and a woman is wearing a swimsuit.

The accompanying text for the video says that Dagestan should introduce a dress code for tourists. In their comments to the video, social media users urged residents of the republic to respond and make comments to tourists.

“It is not a man who saw this and passed by with his eyes closed,” stated user Makhach Dalgatov. “I think a local person could just come up and politely explain that it’s not in our traditions,” wrote user Ruslan Magomedov.

Another part of the users called for strict measures. “It is necessary to adopt a law at the republican level prohibiting undressing in public places,” user Pavel Saveliev believes.

Other users spoke out in their comments against the dress code for tourists. “You don’t need to tell anyone anything. You need to set an example. More than half of Dagestani people walk like tourists, either on the beach in swimsuits or around the city in shorts,” user Murad Almaskhanov emphasized.
