Protesters in Rustavi demand to release Nika Gvaramiya

Activists of the movement "For Georgia" have held a protest action near the prison in Rustavi, where Nika Gvaramiya, a former head of the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel, is kept; during their protest, they demanded to release him.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 16, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced Nika Gvaramiya to 3.5 years in prison within an embezzlement case. Human rights defenders and Gvaramiya's supporters treat the court's verdict as too severe.

On June 19, several dozen supporters of Nika Gvaramiya from among activists of the "For Georgia" movement held a rally in support of him near the prison in Rustavi, at which they demanded to release him.

The protesters have stated that Gvaramiya had been arrested unreasonably and for political reasons. Apart from his release, they also demanded to release Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, a former Georgian President, the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel has reported on its website today.
