Authorities of Krasnodar Territory allow extraction of dolomites in the reserve territory
The "Region Resource" Company intends to start prospecting dolomites in the territory of the "Kamyshanova Polyana" Landscape Reserve, located in the Apsheron District of the Krasnodar Territory near to the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve.
Andrei Rudomakha, Coordinator of the Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that according to the statement on creating the reserve, any "prospecting works and extraction of minerals" are forbidden. Nevertheless, the status of especially protected natural territory has not prevented Alexander Ivanov, deputy head of the Administration of the Krasnodar Territory, and Vladislav Kuchuk, head of the Territorial Agency for Subsurface Management for the Krasnodar Territory, from signing on July 10, 2006, a joint decision "On Granting the Limited Liability Company (LLC) 'Region Resource' the Rights to Use a Site of Entrails of the Earth."
Withdrawal out of nature of a significant area with a complete destruction of its natural environment, explosive works, constant noise from transport traffic, blocking of migratory wild animals' routes, ecologists assert, will cause irreplaceable damage to the landscape and biological diversity of this region.
