Dagestani Muftiate speaks about ban of "Sahih al-Bukhari"* in Russia

The federal list of extremist materials includes a specific edition of "Sahih al-Bukhari"*, and not the collection itself. There is another translation of the collection in Russia, the Muftiate of Dagestan has pointed out, responding to calls to comment on the ban.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 31, Ramzan Kadyrov demanded to revise the decision to include the "Sahih al-Bukhari"*, a collection of Prophet Muhammad's sayings, into the list of extremist materials. In his opinion, the court "turned to incompetent expertise", while the "Sahih al-Bukhari"* is "a reliable source of Prophet Muhammad's biography, which Muslim scholars treat as the second in importance after the Holy Quran." The Mufti of Chechnya supported Ramzan Kadyrov's demand, while users of the "VKontakte" social network called on the Dagestani Muftiate to also voice out its position.

The original text of the collection of hadiths "Sahih al-Bukhari"* is not banned in the Russian Federation, the Dagestan Muftiate announced on September 1. "The information circulated on the Internet about the ban on the 'Sahih al-Bukhari'* only concerns the author's translation of this book into Russian, which, as far as we can assume, raised questions from supervisory authorities, as a result of which this particular version was banned in the territory of our country," the Muftiate's Telegram channel has stated.

It has added that apart from this edition of the collection, there are other editions thereof. "In Russia, there is a translation of the collection of hadiths 'Sahih al-Bukhari'*, made by experts in the Sharia Law of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan," the channel has explained.
