From August 11 on, photo and video filming in courtrooms of Georgia will be banned

On August 2, it became clear that President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili had signed the bill on amending the Law "On Ordinary Courts," according to which all photo, video and movie filming shall be prohibited in the premises and courtrooms of Georgian courts, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports from Tbilisi.

The bill that was passed by the Parliament of Georgia about a month ago will come into force on August 11. According to the new legislation, photo, video and movie materials shall be disseminated by the courts themselves. When in the courtrooms and only upon permission of the court, journalists are allowed to make only their audio and stenographic records.

Meanwhile, a number of Georgian NGOs had called Saakashvili to veto the bill.
