Court in Astrakhan toughens Albagachiev's custody regime
Following the presentation of the Astrakhan corrective colony IK-10, the court has changed the custody regime for Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, a prisoner from Ingushetia, for the prison one. The decision will be appealed against, Irina Biryukova, an advocate, has informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2018, Albagachiev was sentenced to nine years in colony. According to investigators, since January 2015, he had fought in Syria against government troops; and after returning to Russia in March of the same year, he kept a homemade grenade with him. Albagachiev claimed that he was tortured during the investigation. On March 19, human rights defenders announced that Albagachiev was kept at the colony in torturous conditions.
On February 21, 2023, Albagachiev's relatives reported deterioration in his health in the colony. The corrective colony's bosses had placed him under strict isolation, after which he had an epileptic seizure, his wife Maret reported. Ismail Mankiev, an Albagachiev's uncle, has stated that his nephew acquired epilepsy after being tortured.
The Astrakhan IK-10 has appealed to the court asking to change the general custody regime for Albagachiev into the prison one, treating him as a malicious regime violator, says the website of the "Public Verdict" Fund.
Human rights defenders are trying to bring to justice the Astrakhan IK-8 and IK-10 colonies, who failed to provide data on why Albagachiev is constantly placed into the dungeon (punishment cell) there.
