Colleagues of Gadjiev notice decline in people’s interest in pickets held in his support

Passers-by reacted less actively to pickets in support of Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev. The picketers associate a decline in interest in their protest action with the extremely hot weather in Makhachkala.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold pickets in his support in Makhachkala. On August 14, solo pickets were held by journalists Magomed Magomedov and Idris Yusupov.

Idris Yusupov said that drivers paid special attention to him, while passers-by paid less attention, probably because of the hot weather.

Several people entered into a dialogue with the journalist. Among the noteworthy conversations, Idris Yusupov mentioned a conversation with a young man who asked if the protestor demanded freedom for Russian or American journalism. Initially, the young man spoke in English and then switched to Russian.

Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”, called the people’s reaction to the protest action demanding freedom for Abdulmumin Gadjiev minimal. The journalist attributed the above to the hot weather. During the picket, there were no more than 10 reactions from drivers.
