Chechen police refuse to institute criminal case on beating of Zhuravel

Based on the results of the inspection, the Chechen police have refused to institute a criminal case on beating of Nikita Zhuravel due to the absence of a criminal act, the Russian Ombudsperson’s Office reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 25, 2023, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov posted on the Internet a video in which his son Adam Kadyrov was beating in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) Nikita Zhuravel, who was arrested for burning the Koran. The leader of Chechnya praised the son for his act.

On November 2, 2023, in Grozny, a court began to consider the criminal case against Nikita Zhuravel. The young man was accused of violating the right to freedom of conscience and religion and hooliganism.

The Chechen police have not found any reason to institute a criminal case on the beating of Nikita Zhuravel, as follows from the response of the Russian Ombudsperson’s Office to a person’s appeal, the “Brief” Telegram channel reports.
