In Tatarstan, the court of appeal upheld the decision to arrest Askhabali Alibekov, a native of Dagestan, suspected of using violence against a policeman.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 4, a court in Kazan ordered the arrest for two months of blogger Askhabali Alibekov, who was detained on suspicion of using violence against a policeman.

On March 26, the Supreme Court (SC) of Tatarstan approved the decision to arrest Askhabali Alibekov until May 1, the “OVD-Info”* human rights project reports with reference to advocate Rim Sabirov.

Let us remind you that on February 20, it became known that the police detained Askhabali Alibekov at a train station in Kazan. According to the law enforcers’ version, they invited Askhabali Alibekov to follow them to a police station for drawing up a protocol under the article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, but the man refused. According to the blogger’s version, the law enforcers immediately started beating him. On the same day, the court arrested Askhabali Alibekov for 15 days, finding him guilty of failure to obey a lawful request of the police.

After his detention in Kazan, the law enforcers beat Askhabali Alibekov so much that he had bruises, said his daughter Zalina. The blogger needed an ambulance after being beaten, and a complaint has been prepared against the law enforcers, advocate Rim Sabirov reports.
