Resident of Stavropol Territory to get compensation for death of her son in hospital

In the Stavropol Territory, a court upheld the claim filed by a resident of the region who demanded compensation from the hospital after the death of her son as a result of poor-quality medical treatment.

The plaintiff reported that in April 2020, her 17-year-old son complained about pain in his knee, allegedly due to a bruise. The pain intensified, and the teenager’s body temperature rose to 39 degrees. On April 29, the young man and his parents arrived at the district hospital.

After examination, a traumatologist made a diagnosis as “knee joint bruise.” Meanwhile, the prescribed medical treatment did not help the teenager, as he began to complain about weakness and muscle pain, the joint press service for the regional courts reports.

When the teenager repeatedly came to the hospital on May 1, 2020, he was examined by a traumatologist and a pediatric physician. The young man was diagnosed with an ankle sprain, and medical treatment was prescribed, but the patient got worse the other day. He was taken to the hospital in severe condition with pneumonia, and after surgery the young man died.

Based on the results of the inspection, the Ministry for Public Health of the Stavropol Territory indicated that the death of the teenager could have been prevented if doctors had revealed the disease correctly and prescribed appropriate medical treatment.

The court partially granted the demands of the teenager’s mother and obliged the hospital to pay 500,000 roubles as compensation for moral damage.
