Singer Sharlot*, who asked forgiveness from Kadyrov, sentenced to colony term
The court has sentenced singer Eduard Sharlot* to 5.5 years in colony on charges of rehabilitating Nazism and insulting believers. In his final statement, the musician, who had earlier asked Ramzan Kadyrov for forgiveness, has apologized again for his video clips.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this January, Eduard Sharlot apologized in court to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, for "insulting" him, and to Vladimir Putin, whose portrait he tore up.
In the summer of 2023, Sharlot* moved to Armenia and expressed his disagreement with the actions of the Russian Government, but he quickly ran out of money there. Last November, the musician decided to return to Russia and was detained at the airport. The project "Support for political prisoners. Memorial" declared him as a political prisoner.
In his final statement, Sharlot* apologized for his provocative video clips, the RIA "Novosti" has reported.
"I sincerely apologize to everyone for filming and posting provocative videos on the Instagram**, namely: setting fire to a passport, insulting Patriarch Kirill and some other high-ranking citizens of the Russian Federation. And also for the mocking attitude to the topic of the special military operation (SMO)," the RIA "Novosti" has quoted him as saying.
*On July 23, 2024, the Russian Federal Service for Financial Monitoring included the musician Eduard Sharlot into the list of terrorists and extremists.
**On March 21, 2022, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
