Court lifts arrest on property of the "Imedi" TV Company

Advocate Iosif Baratashvili has informed that today the city court of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, has lifted the arrest on the property of the "Imedi" TV Company under the petition of the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.

"The Court has cancelled all the charges on the basis of which the arrest on "Imedi" had been imposed," Mr Baratashvili said.

As to the broadcasting license of the "Imedi", it was restored on December 5 upon the decision of the National Commission on Communications, the "News-Georgia" reports.

On December 3, Nino Burdzhanadze, acting President of Georgia, declared that the country's leadership had addressed the General Prosecutor's Office with a request to lift the arrest on the property of "Imedi", taking into account the pre-election period in the country and considering that the danger, on the basis of which the arrest on the property of "Imedi" had been exhausted.

Today, the "Imedi" Radio has resumed its broadcasting within the borders of Tbilisi.

"Today we have restarted our work, but, unfortunately, because of technical problems we are covering Tbilisi only: the office has no Internet access and our phones would not operate. We broadcast just music, but we hope that within the next few days our information programs will restart," Nona Kandiashvili, Director of the Radio Station, has informed as quoted by the IA "News-Georgia".

Ms Kandiashvili has noted that the documents and archives of the Radio Station were not damaged and are in complete order.

The General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia had explained earlier that the operation of the "Imedi" Radio could not be resumed as its office is in the building of the "Imedi" TV Company, whose property had been arrested.

Both Companies are parts of the "Imedi" TV and Radio Corporation.
