Azerbaijan: journalist Fatullaev thinks his arrest to be politically motivated

Today, at a session of the Appeal Court, journalist Einullah Fatullaev has confirmed that he finds himself to be innocent, and the criminal case against him to be forged.

Touching on the President's pardon decree in relation to journalists, Fatullaev has emphasized that in spite of the fact that President of Azerbaijan has signed his pardon petition, the decision on his release was not made. According to the journalist, he will never sign any petitions in the future.

Isakhan Ashurov, Fatullaev's advocate, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that his client repeated to the court that his arrest was of "customized and political" character, and that he has suffered for his free-thinking.

The advocate has also indicated the illegality of Fatullaev's arrest and absence of evidences of his guilt. He has called on the court to hold a fair investigation and acquit the journalist.
