Sozar Subari: Parliament avoids considering the situation with human rights in Georgia

Ombudsman of Georgia Sozar Subari has stated this fact at the presentation of his report "Anatomy of Human Rights Violations in Georgia". The event was held on March 28 at the "Tbilisi Marriott" Hotel, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

According to Mr Subari, the very fact that he has to present his report not to the Parliament, as the law requires, is a clear indication that in Georgia human rights are in poor condition and the authorities have the respective attitude thereto.

"In spite of the fact that the parliamentary committee for defence of human rights was ready to consider the report, the Parliament Bureau has concluded that it is too early so far to bring this point to the agenda and postponed the point for uncertain time," Mr Subari has stated.

The report presents numerous facts and particular examples of violations of human rights in various spheres. In particular, it lists violations during the presidential election, states the problems in the sphere of Georgian justice, the role of the Prosecution Office in setting up the repressive system, about the death rate in prisons, on November events, including pogrom in the "Imedi" TV Company, illegal use of rubber bullets, case of Irakliy Kodua, syndrome of fear, violations of the right for property. Besides, the situation with human rights in Georgia for the latest four years is analyzed.
