Georgia recalls her ambassador from Russia

Georgia has recalled her ambassador from the Russian Federation in the context of recent events in the conflict zones in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and Russia's actions. This was announced today evening by Ekaterina Tkeshelashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, at a special briefing.

Let us remind here that President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, speaking today in a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Tbilisi, said that Russian aircrafts had intruded into Georgian air space and accused Russia of breaching international agreements.

Making comments on the statement of the Russia's MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) that Russian war crafts made a flight over the non-recognized Republic of South Ossetia with the aim not to admit military actions, Ms Tkeshelashvili said that she would recall Georgian ambassador in Russia for consultations.

Also today, Alexander Smaga, Russia's Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia, was invited to the MFA of Georgia, where the note of protest on violation by Russian war crafts of the air space of Georgia was handed over to him, the "News-Georgia" Agency reports.
