Javier Solana condemns flights of Russian crafts over South Ossetia

Javier Solana, EU Foreign and Defence Policy High Commissioner, has shared the opinion of the authorities of Georgia concerning the flights of Russian war crafts over South Ossetia.

Georgia has declared that on July 9 her air space was intruded by Russian air crafts. Russia has confirmed the fact, having added that "aircrafts of Russian Air Forces made a short flight over the territory of South Ossetia", since "a necessity had arisen to take urgent and effective measures not to admit bloodshed and to keep the situation within legal peaceful bounds."

In his telephone conversation with Ekaterina Tkeshelashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Mr Solana criticized the actions of Russian militaries and stated that European diplomats had already put the issue on the agenda of their debates with Russian colleagues.

The press service of the EU Foreign and Defence Policy High Commissioner has informed that Javier Solana also told the head of the Georgian foreign policy agency that Brussels is very attentively monitoring the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, called all the interested parties to endurance and declared that achievement of lasting peace in the region is possible only through political dialogue.
