European Court finds another complaint against torture in Chechnya eligible

ЕСThe European Court on Human Rights has recognized eligible the received complaint of Alaudin Sadykov from Chechnya, who was subjected to torture by militaries and militiamen in 2000.

Today, the Inter-Regional Committee against Tortures has reported about recognition of the complaint "Sadykov versus Russia" to be eligible for consideration.

Sadykov was repeatedly tortured when kept at the Pre-Trial Isolation Facility of the Oktiabrskiy District of Grozny. Most often, he was beaten. But on March 11, 2000, militiamen, having beaten and handcuffed Sadykov, tumbled him down onto the floor and cut off Alaudin's left ear.

The torture continued for more than 3 months. As a result, without being accused of anything, he was released.

The domestic investigation that lasted for about 8 years is not over yet.

Currently, the recognition of eligibility means that at the moment Sadykov's complaint, in the opinion of the European Court, meets the criteria of the European Convention and in the near future will be considered on its merits.
