Ulman hopes for acquittal

Today, the North-Caucasian Regional Military Court (Rostov-on-Don) has started a trial on Ulman's case. Apart from the defendants and their advocates, seven victims and two representatives of the Chechen Human Rights Centre have arrived to the process.

The defendants have stated that they would not admit their guilt; however, they do not deny that the fact of causing death to citizens had taken place. Also, Eduard Ulman and his comrades-in-arms did not admit the victims' claims (back in the course of initial proceedings on the case, they had claimed collection of over 500,000 roubles each as compensation of moral damage).

The victims have told the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" that they hope for a fair verdict to by finally passed, and that the murder of their relatives will not remain unpunished. In his turn, Eduard Ulman has stated that he hopes for acquittal.

Captain Eduard Ulman, warrant officer Vladimir Voevodin, lieutenant Alexander Kalaganskiy and major Alexei Perelevskiy are accused of assassination of peaceful residents of Chechnya.
