Dagestan marks a year of shooting down the meeting in Dokuzparinskiy District
April 25 last year, a peaceful meeting was swept in the Dokuzparinskiy District of Dagestan. On that day about a thousand local residents were holding a meeting demanding resignation of Kerimkhan Abasov, head of the District Administration.
It is expected that on this day the residents of the District will hold memory actions and install a monument in memory of the victims of the 2006 events, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent informs.
We remind you that on April 25, 2006, the demonstrators who held a meeting demanding resignation of Kerimkhan Abasov, head of the Dokuzparinskiy District, were dispersed by OMON (Special Militia) fighters.
Apart from rubber bullets and tear gas, firing arms were also used against the demonstrators. One man was killed, and four others were hospitalized with wounds.
Later, law enforcement bodies of Dagestan detained 74 protesters.
