Authorities of South Ossetia believe that RF-Belarus Union will be safer for them

In the near future, South Ossetia will consider accession of the Republic to the Union State of Russia and Belarus. In the opinion of the authorities, South Ossetia needs to seek ways to ensure its safety.

"South Ossetia is forced to seek ways to ensure its safety. For Russia, ensuring peace and stability in South Ossetia is not only the issue of her obligations taken under the process of peaceful settlement of Georgian-Ossetian conflict but also a serious factor of her own interests to defend Russian citizens and curb the spread of instability over the Russian Northern Caucasus," Konstantin Kochiev, adviser of the president of South Ossetia, has noted.

According to Ivan Makushka, head of the press service of the State Secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, the leadership of this formation is ready to consider possible accession of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to the Union.

Mr Kochiev, who is quoted by the IA "News-Georgia" with reference to the Committee for Information and Press of the RSO (Republic of South Ossetia), has also said the parliament of South Ossetia has been making efforts to this end for several years already.

Konstantin Kochiev has stated that the recent actions of Georgia have nearly led to restart of military actions, which were prevented "only thanks to resolute actions of Russia."
