South Ossetia and Abkhazia welcome Russian Parliament's statement on their independence

Presidents of South Ossetia and Abkhazia Eduard Kokoity and Sergey Bagapsh called today's appeal of both Chambers of Russian Parliament to Dmitri Medvedev, urging him to recognize the independence of their republics, a historical date for their nations.

"Sooner or later the international community will recognize our independence. We just need time," Abkhazian leader Sergey Bagapsh said today on air of "Echo Moskvy" Radio.

The initially constrained reaction of Tskhinvali residents to Russian Parliament's statement is growing into universal glee, the "Interfax" reports. The city is flooded with cars decorated by republic's and Russian flags. Small groups of 5-10 persons wonder across the city centre and congratulate each other.
