Journalist Shalva Ramishvili to be released in Georgia

In Georgia, on August 26, after four years of imprisonment, journalist Shalva Ramishvili, owner of the TV Company "202", will be released.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already reported that oppositionist Zakhariya Kutsnashvili, a member of the organization "Law for People", acting on behalf of the initiative group, on July 6 promulgated a list of Georgia's political prisoners. Journalist Shalva Ramishvili convicted in 2006 was No. 1 in the list.

Let us remind you that the Tbilisi City Court found Shalva Ramishvili, one of the founders of the TV Company "202", guilty and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. Mr Ramishvili was detained by law enforcement bodies on August 27, 2005, on charge of extorting 100,000 US dollars from MP Koba Bekauri.

It is not known yet, whether after release Shalva Ramishvili will return to journalism. It is not excluded that he will go in for politics, as reported by the GHN.

According to Mr Kutsnashvili, political prisoners, as a rule, do not apply for pardon. "Shalva Ramishvili had the right to conditionally early relief, but he didn't file a pardon petition," said the human rights activist.
