MCC extends arrest of figurants in Politkovskaya's murder case

Today, the Moscow City Court (MCC) has left under arrest for other three months, that is, until February 21, 2014, the defendants in the murder case of the observer of the "Novaya Gazeta" Anna Politkovskaya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today the representative of the prosecution has petitioned at the court session about the extension of the defendants' arrest.

Judge Pavel Melekhin has satisfied the prosecutor's petition and ruled that the defendants should stay in custody during the above period, because the investigation continues and because he found the arguments of the state prosecutor Boris Loktionov reasonable, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"The court finds the petition reasonable and decides to satisfy it, while the arguments of the defence in favour of replacing custody by home arrest or release on bail are unreasonable," Judge Melekhin has read out his statement.
