Vladimir Zhirinovsky: my statements about Northern Caucasus were misunderstood
Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), has claimed that his statements about taking measures to prevent terror acts in Northern Caucasus, made during the TV show "Duel", were misunderstood by part of the society.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, during the TV show "Duel", which was dedicated to the terror act committed in Volgograd on October 21, Vladimir Zhirinovsky called on to separate Northern Caucasus from Russia and to limit the birth rate there. Members of the Chechen regional branch of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia called the proposals of the LDPR leader unacceptable, and the head of the LDPR regional branch announced the termination of its activities in the territory of Chechnya. MPs of the Chechen Parliament have also declared their intention to seek to deprive Vladimir Zhirinovsky of his parliamentary mandate for his statements about residents of Northern Caucasus.
"I regret that the part of our society still got negative impression. I spoke only about combating terrorism," Vladimir Zhirinovsky has stated at the plenary session of the State Duma.
The LDPR leader has also stressed that he meant "to take measures if terror acts were committed", the "Interfax" reports.
As far as the statements about birth control are concerned, then, according to Vladimir Zhirinovsky, he talked about the international practice, and he did not say that with regard to the Russian Federation.
The LDPR leader has expressed his regret about the situation.
