Azerbaijan: court dismisses all defence's motions at Sadygov's trial
On November 12, at the trial in the case against Yadigyar Sadygov, Adviser to the Chairman of the "Musavat" Party, Judge Elchin Kyazimov dismissed all motions filed by the defence, including the motion to disqualify the judge. This was reported by Khalid Bagirov, the defendant's advocate.
"This Judge has no right to consider the case. Earlier, he has sanctioned the Yadigyar Sadygov's arrest, and therefore, he has a bias against the defendant, since he is interested to pronounce the verdict of guilty to the defendant. Even at the warrant of arrest, he has mentioned Yadigyar Sadygov as a person who had committed a crime and thus violated the presumption of innocence of my client," Khalid Bagirov has said.
Khalid Bagirov has also stated that the Judge extended the Yadigyar Sadygov's arrest "wilfully" and "without any court session."
On November 12, leaders of the "Musavat" Party arrived from Baku and together with local activists came to the building of the Lankaran District Court to support Yadigyar Sadygov.
"From the first day of Yadigyar Sadygov's arrest, it was clear that the case was fabricated. Today, once again, it became clear that the criminal case is the order of the authorities to eliminate Yadigyar Sadygov from the pre-election situation in view of his well-known good reputation in Lankaran," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Arif Gadjily, Chief of the administration of the "Musavat" Party.
