Sergey Markarov: Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has no military solution
The planned meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group will not lead to a breakthrough in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This opinion was voiced by Armenian political analysts. Yerevan should adhere to a constructive attitude at the upcoming meeting. This was reported by an official from the administration of the President of Azerbaijan.
"We can hardly expect any progress; however, the fact that the meetings are resumed proves that the parties have realistically assessed the situation and that they understand that there is no military solution to the conflict," emphasized political analyst Sergey Markarov, Director of the Armenian branch of the Institute of CIS countries, at the press conference, held on November 12.
According to Sergey Markarov, the non-constructive attitude of Azerbaijan prevents any progress in the negotiation process.
In his turn, Elnur Aslanov, Deputy Chief of the Department for Political Analysis and Information Support of the administration of the Azerbaijani President, has stated that the meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia can be fruitful in case if Armenia demonstrates the constructive attitude.
Meanwhile, Elnur Aslanov has assessed the Yerevan policy as "occupation policy". He has added that if Armenia retreats from its policy, that fact will provide the basis for peacemaking and stability, the news agency "Trend" reports.
