Selection of new jury for Politkovskaya's case appointed to January 14, 2014
Judge Pavel Melekhin from the Moscow City Court (MCC) has appointed selection of a new jury for the murder case of Anna Politkovskaya, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta", for January 14, 2014.
The current jury was disbanded today after a number of jurors have quitted it.
The jury had only two reserve members; therefore, it proved impossible to form a full panel, which cannot be less than 12 persons.
"The court has decided on the dissolution of the jury. All the proceedings are regarded unlawful. The case will be reconsidered by a newly formed jury," Pavel Melekhin has announced his decision taken on the spot.
The advocates have stated after the session that they will appeal against the judge's ruling on the dissolution of the jury, because they consider it illegal.
"The court has failed to clear out all the reasons why the jurors refused from their further participation in the proceedings," the lawyer Tatiana Okushko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
