In Nalchik, refugees from Syria continue to live in unheated hotel
Till present, Syrian Circassians, who live in the "Djailyk" Hotel in Nalchik, stay in unheated rooms. According to them, the situation for refugees has worsened because of the cool weather.
The hotel is not heated because of its accumulated debts to utility companies. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" by Magomed Atabiev, Director of the "Djailyk" Hotel.
"Syrians were lodged at our hotel in August 2012. The payment for their accommodation in the amount of 400,000 roubles was transferred only once, and since that time, we did not receive even a rouble. There is no heating in the hotel, since debts exceed one million roubles," the Director has said.
According to him, the administration of the hotel appealed to all the power structures of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) related to the accommodation of Syrian refugees and, in particular, to the Ministry of Sport and Tourism that have lodged the refugees at the "Djailyk" Hotel.
"We were told that the money will be transferred to us 'tomorrow or on the day after tomorrow'; however, later, we were told that there is no money in the budget and that no money will be transferred to us," Magomed Atabiev has said.
According to him, the refugees try to escape from the cold and heat the rooms by electric stoves, thus causing significant increase in the electricity consumption. "I cannot forbid them to use heaters, since they have kids, who can catch a cold," Magomed Atabiev has stated.
