On November 11-17, 2013, 16 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
In the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, during the week from November 11 to November 17, 2013, at least 16 persons suffered; of them nine people were killed and seven others wounded. These are the results of the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes two law enforcers, one civilian and six suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) (all of them – in Dagestan).
Attacks on law enforcers
On November 13, in central Makhachkala, at the intersection of Shamil Avenue and Kazbekov and Akushinsky Streets, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) stopped a Lada Priora car to check documents. According to the policemen, the driver opened fire on them and was killed by return fire. One of the policemen was wounded. There were two more suspected militants in the car; they managed to escape. The killed driver was identified as Magomed Abakarov, born in 1965, a member of the so-called "Buinaksk" grouping. He was on the federal wanted list.
On November 14, on the 783rd kilometre of the Federal Highway "Kavkaz", near the village of Novaya Urada, Kumtorkalin District of Dagestan, an armed attack was committed on a police unit. As a result, one policeman was killed on the spot, and two others were wounded. One of them later died in hospital. The attackers were in a car earlier hijacked from a resident of Makhachkala.
Special operations and CTOs
On November 15, at about 2:00 p.m., power agents blocked the village of Kharachi, Untsukul District of Dagestan. According to local residents, on November 16, fifteen persons, including the head of the village Gadjimurad Saladinov, the Imam of the local mosque and the director of the village school, were detained by power agents and taken to the police station for questioning. According to a source from the Untsukul ROVD (District Interior Division), during the operative-investigative activities, some unidentified persons threw a grenade at the policemen; fortunately, no one was hurt. By the evening, 10 detainees were released without charge.
On November 15, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the village of Semender, Kirov District of Makhachkala. A private house was blocked, in which there were militants, including Dmitry Sokolov, a member of the "Makhachkala" grouping, who was involved, according to law enforcers, in preparing the bus explosion in Volgograd. During the battle five suspected militants, including Sokolov, were killed.
Explosions and terror acts
On November 9, in Beibulatov Street in Makhachkala, an unidentified person triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) with the power of about 100 grams of TNT (trotyl) equivalent. As a result, a passing by UAZ van lost its glasses; nobody was hurt.
