During week of November 18-24, 2013, 22 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of November 18-24, 2013, at least 22 persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 18 persons were killed, and 4 persons were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes three power agents in Dagestan, three civilians - two in Kabardino-Balkaria and one in Ingushetia, and 12 suspected members of the armed underground, including ten in Dagestan, and two in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Attacks on law enforcers

On November 19, in Makhachkala, in Aziz Aliev Street, near the building of the Spiritual Administration (SAM) of Muslims of Dagestan, policemen were shelled from a car passing by. One policeman died on the spot, and the other policeman died in hospital.

On the same day, unidentified persons from a car shelled a police squad on duty at the Trolleybus Ring in Makhachkala. Two policemen were brought to hospital with wounds of varying severity. According to an official from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the police squad was shelled from the same car, which participated in the attack committed at the SAM's building. A passer-by was killed in the shelling.

During the organized pursuit of the attackers of the police squads in Makhachkala, one attacker was killed. The killed man was identified: according to the power agents' information, the attacker was Ruslan Kazanbiev, an accomplice of the organizer of the terror act committed in Volgograd. The other two attackers were blocked in a private house and killed by the next morning. They were identified: according to the law enforcers' information, they were Murad Kasumov, the leader of the "Makhachkala" armed grouping, and Kamal Muslimov, who were involved in plotting of the terror act in Volgograd.

On November 20, between the villages of Baksanyonok and Kishpek of the Baksan District of Kabardino-Balkaria, policemen from the centre for combating extremism of the Republic's MIA and agents from the FSB Department for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) found two armed men. While the law enforcers were trying to detain them, the men opened fire on the policemen. The attackers were killed by return fire. No law enforcer suffered.

On November 21, at 2:35 a.m. Moscow time, in the village of Teletl of the Shamil District of Dagestan, an armed clash with the suspected members of illegal armed groupings occurred. During the armed clash, the head of the Shamil District MIA's Department for Dagestan was wounded. A house with the suspects inside it was blocked. Two suspected militants were blocked by the law enforcers in a private house; however, they managed to escape. During their pursuit, one more policeman, a staff member of the Levashi OVD (Interior Division), was wounded, and later he died from the wounds. Then, one of the militant under pursuit was killed, and he had preliminary identified as Murad Magomedov, a resident of the village of Teletl of the Shamil District.

On November 22, on the highway Derbent-Khuchni in the Tabasaran District of Dagestan, policemen stopped a Hyundai car for inspection. According to law enforcers, a driver took out a pistol and opened fire, and then he was killed by return fire. The killed man was identified as Ismail Akimov, born in 1991, who lived in the city of Dagestanskie Ogni.

Special operations and CTO

On November 20, law enforcers blocked militants in a private house in the village of Novosasitli of the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan. After the militants responded by shooting to the offer to surrender, law enforcers broke into the house. As a result of the armed clash, two suspected militants and two of their female accomplices were killed. During the assault, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) detonated in the house, where the militants were hiding and caused fire. The killed men were identified as Magomed Akhmednabiev and Islam Akhmedov, active members of the "Khasavyurt" militant grouping. The killed women were their wives.

On November 21, a legal regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced in the Lenin District of Makhachkala. During the day, law enforcers conducted operational activities and targeted checks to search and reveal members of the armed underground.

Bombings and terror acts

On November 18, in Khasavyurt, near the gastronome located at the intersection of Fabrichnaya and Toturbiev Streets, an explosion occurred. No victims and survivors are reported.

On November 23, an explosion occurred in Gogol Street in Makhachkala. As a result, a person, who was transporting an IED, was killed. The killed man was preliminary identified. According to law enforcers, he was Magomed Suleimanov, a demolition man of the Makhachkala militant grouping. The explosive device had power of about 5 kilograms of TNT equivalent. According to the Dagestani MIA, the explosion occurred at the moment, when the man was planting the IED, and it detonated only in part.

Attacks on civilians

On November 18, unidentified men attacked 30-year-old Magomed Tochiev near the building of the rural administration of the village of Surkhakhi of the Nazran District of Ingushetia and shelled him from automatic weapons. As a result, he died on the spot. The attackers fled the scene in a black Lada Granta car.

On November 18, in the city of Baksan, in Katkhanov Street, two unidentified men drove up to a car service in a Lada Granta car and shot dead two persons. One of the killed men was a staff member of the car service station, and the other one was his acquaintance. He is to be identified.

On November 22, at about 8:15 p.m. Moscow time, in the village of Dugulubgei, a suburb of Baksan in Kabardino-Balkaria, two unidentified persons captured a taxi car and drove up to Street named after the 400th Anniversary of Kabarda's Inclusion into Russia. They asked a businessman to leave his house and fired on him several times. The businessman was wounded to his leg and was hospitalized.
