Detentions
On June 16, in the outskirt of the village of Proletarskoe of the Grozny District of Chechnya, armed law enforcers stopped the car of a former OMON (riot police) commander and demanded to follow them. Since then, his whereabouts are unknown. According to unconfirmed reports, on June 17, he was brought home, allowed to change clothes and was again taken away, without explaining to his relatives the reason for his detention and the place where he would be kept. During the period between the two Chechen military campaigns, the former commander headed the guard of governmental buildings in Grozny and was considered a close supporter of Aslan Maskhadov. In 2003, he laid down his arms under the guarantees of the former head of Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov, and for the next few years occupied senior positions in law enforcement bodies under Akhmat Kadyrov and Alu Alkhanov. His career ended when the republic was headed by Ramzan Kadyrov. According to some sources, in recent years, the former OMON commander lived in Pyatigorsk, and came to his relatives in Chechnya for the Uraza-Bayram holiday.
