Abkhaz villagers complain about absence of help after landslide

A landslide has destroyed a road and houses in the village of Bedia du, Tkuarchal District, but the people who have lost their homes receive no help from the authorities, local residents have complained. Authorities have reported the situation to the government of Abkhazia and are waiting for its reaction, the head of the village has explained.

The landslide occurred on January 15 and completely ruined the road, said Djumber Kharchilava, the head of the village of Bedia du.

Gudisa Samsoniya, a local resident, said that two of his houses were destroyed by the landslide. "There are eight of us, three children ... We were all at home when it began collapsing; we ran out; it was very scary," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The houses cannot be restored, and it is impossible to build anything on the landslide, he has complained. "We have no money to buy housing. So far, no one has helped us," the man said.

The road section damaged by the landslide has collapsed completely. Besides, there is no electricity supply in the village now.
