Candidate for deputy links arrest of Stavropol activist Fokin with elections

The reason for the administrative arrest of the eco-activist, Andrei Fokin, was his meeting with residents of the village of Ostrogorka, but his arrest has to do with the elections of deputies to the Lermontov council, Marina Kardash, a candidate, whose confidant at elections was Fokin, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9, in the city of Lermontov, during the registration of Andrei Fokin's application about a violation at polling station No. 725, he was accused of organizing or holding a public event without filing a notification in the prescribed manner; and on the same day, the city court sentenced him to seven days of arrest.

The decision to arrest Andrei Fokin was appealed against on September 11, Marina Kardash, whose confidant was Fokin, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Marina Kardash believes that Fokin's arrest is linked exactly with the elections. According to her story, at the time of submitting his application about the violation, Fokin was taken to a separate room, where he was interrogated for a long time, and then taken away in an unknown place.

The essence of the violation claimed by Fokin was in the seizure of video camera, Mr Kardash has stated, adding that despite Fokin's arrest, his complaint was accepted by the police.
