Journalist Yusupov* claims interference with his solo picket in support of Gadjiev in Makhachkala
Journalist Idris Yusupov* traditionally went out on a solo picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, but the police interfered with the protest action three times until it had to be stopped, since another man unfolded a similar poster next to the picketer.
Idris Yusupov* stated that he saw the stranger for the first time. “As soon as I saw him, I rolled up my poster. After that, policemen talked to me and requested to show my ID, but the stranger went somewhere,” the journalist noted.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support. However, on January 22, an unidentified man with a sheet of paper in his hands tried to stand next to Idris Yusupov*, a journalist of the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause) publication, who was holding a solo picket. After that, the journalist had to stop his protest action.
On January 15, Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the Dagestani newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), tried to hold a solo picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. Another picketer joined him, and the police detained the journalist, accusing him of violating the regulations for holding a solo protest. Magomed Magomedov considered the disruption of his solo picket a provocation planned by the law enforcement bodies.
*On November 24, 2023, the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) included Idris Yusupov into the register of foreign agents. The journalist filed an appeal against the MoJ’s decision.
