Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), held a solo picket in Makhachkala with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support. In particular, the protest actions are being conducted by Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”, and Idris Yusupov*, a journalist of the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause) edition. On November 27, Idris Yusupov held a solo picket in support of residents of Palestine, while at his solo picket, Magomed Magomedov demanded to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

In June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the newspaper “Chernovik”, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charitable foundation, and Kemal Tambiev were arrested on the charge of financing terrorism. On September 12, the court sentenced Abdulmumin Gadjiev to 17 years, Abubakar Rizvanov – to 18 years, and Kemal Tambiev – to 17.5 years of imprisonment.

*On November 24, the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) included Idris Yusupov into the register of foreign agents. The journalist intends to file an appeal against the MoJ’s decision.
