Oyub Titiev's defence points to inconsistencies in case materials

Today, at a trial in the case against Oyub Titiev, his advocate has pointed to the fact that the signature of a policeman in his report stating that the rights defender kept drugs at home does not match his signatures in other documents.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that yesterday, on December 10, the court refused to release Oyub Titiev under house arrest and extended the arrest of the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Grozny for three months, until March 22, 2019. The rights defender himself treated the court's decision as expected and complained that he did not receive all the letters addressed to him.

Oyub Titiev is charged with marijuana possession, and he has been in custody since January 11. He claims that the drugs had been planted to him by law enforcers.

At the today's court hearing in the Oyub Titiev's case, the court continued to read out the written evidence.

Public prosecutor Baitaeva began reading out the written evidence with an investigator's notification of the Oyub Titiev's arrest, which, according to the investigator, was sent to the wife of Oyub Titiev. The rights defender himself objected saying that his wife "did not receive anything like that."

Furthermore, the public prosecutor also read out the report prepared by Magomedov, a field investigator from the criminal investigation department of the Kurchaloi ROVD (Interior District Division). In his report addressed to Aguev, the ROVD chief, Magomadov noted that, according to the operational information, Oyub Titiev kept drugs at home.

"I would like to draw attention to the Aguev's signature in the left corner of the document: it does not match his signatures in other documents," advocate Marina Dubrovina told the court.
