Chechen Mansur Movlaev, who fled to Kyrgyzstan, sentenced to six months

A court in Bishkek has sentenced Mansur Movlaev, a native of Chechnya, accused of illegally crossing the Kyrgyz border, to six months in colony followed by deportation. Movlaev, who fears persecution by Chechen authorities, has asked in court to be sentenced to the maximum term, his advocate has explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this August law enforcers detained Mansur Movlaev in Kyrgyzstan; he had been put on the wanted list in Russia in the case of financing extremism. On September 15, he applied for asylum in Kyrgyzstan.

"I'm ready to go to prison here for at least ten years to save my life," Movlaev said in his last word, Batyr Avtandil, his advocate, told the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that in 2020, in Russia, Movlaev was sentenced to three years in prison, but his supporters claim that the case was fabricated. Movlaev escaped to Kyrgyzstan from an illegal prison; in Russia he faced about 10 years in prison.
