Two residents of Dagestan punished for calling for a rally
Two residents of the Magaramkent District of Dagestan were convicted under the article on organizing an unsanctioned gathering due to the publication of calls to come out for a rally in Makhachkala.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 30, Sergey Melikov, the leader of Dagestan, threatened the participants of the riots with inevitable punishment. However, after a request for leniency voiced by well-known athletes, the leader of Dagestan promised that those who “were smashing shop windows” would be punished, and not the people who were simply standing “with the flag of Palestine.” Journalists believe the reaction of Sergey Melikov to the unrest at the airport was belated.
On October 29, mass riots occurred at an airport in Makhachkala due to messages reporting the arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel. More than 20 people were injured. The police detained 201 people for participation in the riots, and administrative protocols were drawn up against 155 rioters.
The Magaramkent District Court of Dagestan considered the cases against two local residents. The protocols were drawn up against Gadjikerim Shikhkerimov and Balamet Balametov because of their WhatsApp statuses, the “Mediazona”* reported.
Both men posted as their statuses a picture with an inscription calling for people to come out for a protest rally in Makhachkala “on the 5th day”.
The court sentenced Gadjikerim Shikhkerimov to 20 hours of compulsory labour and imposed a fine of 20,000 roubles on Balamet Balametov.
*On September 29, 2021, the Ministry of Justice of Russia included the LLC "ZP" (the legal entity that had established the “Mediazona”) into the list of media outlets-foreign agents.
